This book was written for would be travelers to the Philippines in the 1880s. The shipping companies, kind of ships, ports and distances are described here with comments of the author with charts and weather predictions on certain dates and places. It also lists the price and description of places a traveler may consider seeing in the trip to the Philippines. It tells the history of the Philippines and relatively modern geographical description of the country. A comparative lists of provinces in terms of population, dialects, people and area would also interest nostalgic readers. Native flora and fauna are also dealt with Education, industry and commerce are likewise discussed. Inland travels are explained with costs and recommended places to see. Religious denominations are listed with members for each group specified and also prevailing laws of the land. The government's role in nation building is extensively discussed.
