Summary: In the 21st century, web literacy unlocks the same opportunities as reading and writing. The student who is able to create online has a limitless array of tools. The student who is able to collaborate with peers on the Web can bring fresh, new perspectives to their owrk. And the student who can distinguish reliable information from the unreliable will always be at an advantage. Web-based educational resources for families in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with low health literacy were developed and implemented as prototype web pages using Macromedia Dream weaver MX. The user interface was designed for a touchscreen platform with voice recorded messages to incorporate parents' varying literacy levels and computer experience. Literacy works, an educational nonprofit organization, was created to address these unmet needs of underprivileged and under represented adults, families and children. By using educational technology to increase the quality, availability, and accessibility of literacy curriculum for individuals with low literacy skills, Literacy works is helping people secure better jobs, become better parents, and contribute more to their community. Many adults wish to gain better computer and Internet skills and as a result, using computers and the Internet can be very appealing to some. With web-based learning, the world is your osyter! Since using engaging learning materials helps with retention, be creative and find resources that will be of interest to learners in your literacy agency
